EMBROIDERY ROTATION

Domestic Machine: Appliqué, zig-zag and straight stitch on donated fabric.

Working from sketchbook designs reflecting on key words like structure, layering and ridges. Adding a hint of red to tie in with other sample elements and adding more depth in places.

I really enjoyed playing around with how to create different marks with the machine.

1.

Domestic Machine: Layered (locally sourced) fabrics with broken needle applied. Straight stitched and stuffed with re-purposed netting.

Ridges was a key word for this sample inspiration. Working towards a more personal goal of pushing for more 3D outcomes and I love the tactility of the sample that came through.

Visualised as a padded coat.

2.

Domestic Machine: Faggoted fabric base and twin needle top layer. Using various locally sources, donated and re-purposed fabrics.

Pushing layering in this sample; reflecting geometric structures in architecture, with a particular nod to the systematic placement of windows in high-rise buildings.

Visualised as a smart jacket or formal coat.

3.

Domestic Machine: Layered fabrics then 'slashed', frayed and stitched back into. Using locally sourced, 100% polyester fabrics.

Trying to reflect more of that untamed nature within structure. I am very happy with how the fabric distressed.

4.

Domestic Machine: Cable stitch on two sided re-purposed fabric.

Looking into re-creating that untamed and overwhelming feel of structural shapes built, on top of and, in close proximity of each other like in major cityscapes. Loved the way the colours of the two-sided fabric was bought through.

5.

Domestic Machine: Layering and appliqué with ruching on locally sourced 100% polyester with re-purposed fabrics.

Combining the structural and geometric imagery created from from looking into architecture and windows with the 3D ridges and textures explored.
