Cut up bath matt layered and stitch to a base fabric using wire thread so minimal visibility; focusing on small scale multiples - reminding me of the reflective nature of many high rise buildings in our concrete jungle urban environments.

50/50 cotton/polyester base, recycled bed linen, original colour used. Silicone bath mat sourced from Poundland.

Digital print design using scan in of sample 6. Going back to the idea of pattern and repeat, focussing on tiling. This helped to visualise the sample on a smaller scale, making it easier to place.

CAD (computer aided design).

2.

Cut up sheets of, stitched into, non-stick matt (that has been layered and melted together) stitched to a base fabric. The idea was that it combined the tangled aesthetic that nature provides with the structural shapes that we use so frequently in our architectural design.

Unknown recycled base fabric sourced locally in Nottingham; has cotton/synthetic/elastic qualities.

3.

Stripped straws set in poured silicone. I was thinking about the ridge texture that appears in much of architecture, for example the bumps of granite in brick work or the seal between glass panels.

Silicone and plastic straws recycled from local restaurant.

Digital print design using scan in of sample 5. Going back to the idea of pattern and repeat, flattening the sample made the colours pop out and create, I think, quite a quirky print.

CAD (computer aided design).

Silicone and plastic straws recycled from local restaurant.

5.

Set silicone created by pouring into bubble-wrap and peeling it away once set. Focusing on texture and the structural aesthetic - reminding me of the systematic placement of windows in high rise buildings.

Silicone.

6.

Ear plugs glued to a base at different heights. This sample plays with the contrast of soft and rough; the ear plugs supply a soft feel and the uneven placing of them generating a rough illusion.

50/50 cotton/polyester base, recycled bed linen, original colour used. Rubber ear plugs sourced locally in the university.

7.

Silicone decoration (created using bottle caps as moulds) stitched in sequence to a woven base.

Unknown recycled woven base sourced locally in Nottingham. Silicone with sponge detail.
